Covid-19 Information

Safety is at the centre of everything we do in aviation. KDAC prides itself in making safety our main priority, and our responsibilities extend to our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

The COVID-19 pandemic presents club members, staff and the executive with unprecedented challenges involving personal safety, individual rights, privacy rights, health and safety legislation and employment law.

On October 26, the government announced that a new risk assessment process will be introduced under public health legislation later this year. Until that legislation is available, Worksafe has provided interim guidance on how organisations should handle the HSWA1 aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The club has applied those guidelines and undertaken a risk assessment, and consulted with staff.

As a result, after consultation with management and staff, the club’s executive has decided to implement a vaccination policy for our staff, requiring immunisations for front-facing roles.

To allow unrestricted operations, all club members, staff, and visitors will require vaccine certificates. This requirement will also apply to trial flights and ground operations.

You can provide proof of vaccination by signing up to My Covid Record from the Ministry of Health.

Under the traffic light system, members without proven vaccination status will not be permitted to enter the clubrooms or take part in dual flight or ground instruction. Since member interactions are part of the supervision  requirements to sign-out club aircraft for solo flights, members will require a vaccination pass to access club aircraft. For members with hangared aircraft, access to their aircraft will be available on the flight line regardless of vaccination status. The ramp, fuel pumps, and other outdoor airside locations are available for anyone, irrespective of vaccination status.

While we understand this is a deeply personal matter, we must follow government advice and their initiatives to reduce the impact of COVID-19, accelerate the opening up of the economy and allow all members to fly without restriction as soon as possible.

If you have not received your vaccination yet, this is the time to get it to avoid
disruption to your flying activities.

Kapiti Aero Club is open 7 days a week, 8am-5pm. Call us on 04 902 6536 or drop into our clubrooms to discuss your aviation requirements.
